The government has appointed a 14 member committee to formulate proposals to introduce a dress code for persons visiting places of religious worship.
Culture and Arts Minister T.B. Ekanayaka has appointed Prof. Carlo Fonseka to head the 14-member committee.
The Committee also includes actor Jackson Anthony and musician Rohana Weerasinghe.
Ekanayaka has told the media that the committee is expected to hand in the report by mid January.
The dress code is to apply strictly in sacred city areas like Anuradhapura, Dambulla, Kandy and Sri Pada.
Visitors to other places of religious worship are to be required to adhere to the dress code once implemented.
