The Sri Lanka Navy has ceremonially opened a Water sports facility at the Lunawa Lagoon.
The opening ceremony took place last evening. The lagoon had been an industrial waste dump, flooding the surrounding areas during rains as flood waters remained stagnant in the network of canals and drains connecting the lagoon.
The Navy managed to resurrect the Lagoon and its waterways that had been neglected and degraded over the past two and half decades. It carried out the project to restore the lagoon under the Greater Colombo flood control programme and improve the environment. Navy has decided to provide training and instructions to aspiring enthusiasts in water sports such as motor boating, jet skiing, rowing, kayaking and canoeing.
