The country is ready to conduct a comprehensive census. It will cover the entire island for the first time in 30 years following the end of the war.
It was not possible to conduct a national census covering the entire island over the last three decades due to the civil war. The last censuses were conducted in 1991 and 2001. However, the entire island was not covered. As such, this year’s census would be the first national census since 1981.
According to the Department of Census and Statistics it will be conducted in the third-quarter of this year. The last census was only able to cover 18 of a total of 22 administrative districts. This year’s census will be conducted in three parts of demarcating the district and divisional boundaries followed by buildings survey.
