Barren land is to be transformed into forest lands. The ownership of the forestland will be vested in the owner of the barren land.
The Environment Ministry has decided to distribute the plants required for forest cultivation free of charge to anyone wishing to do so on an acre of the land, and who can confirm the ownership of the land. It is hoped to provide rare as well as trees of high timber value such as Teak, Mahogany, Kumbuk, Jak, Breadfruit, Nadun, Dunumadala and Kone. The owner will also be provided with the required technical know-how and advice. The owner will also be permitted to fell trees when the need for timber rises.
