Celebrations organized for Christmas and New Year have drawn to an end.
Health Ministry reports point out that the number seriously injured in the use of fire crackers with the dawn of 2011 was 22. 10 of them are infants while 12 were adults.896 had sought treatment for burn injuries. It is the eyes that had been mostly damaged as a result of the accidents. Another reason attributed to the increase in accidents is the non-adherence to proper standards in the manufacture of crackers. The Health Ministry has taken the initiative of appraising the manufacturers in this respect. However, the Ministry is of the view that the related parties should be more responsible to minimize the damages and accidents caused by fire crackers. It urges the public to learn lessons from the accidents recorded during this festive season and minimize such accidents.
