Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has said the intention of the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi is to set an example to the world as a united nation.
The Prime Minister called for unity as supreme beings. They can then be called Sri Lankans. This was what the Prime Minister emphasized the Government’s effort was. This is the vision of the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. Thereafter, he pointed out that the people of the country can live without fear and in happiness.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a ceremony organized to unveil the pinnacle of the newly built Chaithya at the Agrashrawaka Maha Vihare in Maligakande. The ceremony was held in parallel to a series of pinkamas marking the 61st birthday of the Ven. Banagala Upatissa Thera, President of the Mahabodhi Society. A notable feature is that the Chaithya resembles India’s Sanchi Stupa. His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith was also present.
