Legal action against local groups supporting alien forces to tarnish country’s image

Jan 6, 2011 5:12:23 AM - itnnews.lk

It has been emphasized that legal action should be taken against local groups that support foreign forces to tarnish the image of the country . The Ministers expressed these views in Parliament during the debate to extend the state of emergency by another month.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that this a time when the arrivals of foreign tourists are steadily increasing due to the peaceful environment prevailing throughout the country including the North and East. He said at such a time the Government does not need to engage in murders and kidnappings to sabotage the trend. He said that for the first time local government elections are to be held in the North and East after the war. Therefore at this time the Government is not foolish to engage in such activities. He said that certain forces that cannot endure these developments are engaging in these activities to show that law and order is not prevailing in the country. He said that those who are engaging in these acts as well as those who support them should be taken into custody.

Parliamentarian Duminda Silva said noone can be permitted to jeopardize state security. Emergency regulations are still required for the development process. Those who talk against these measures want to endanger the security of the country. There is a rumour that young parliamentarians are to support Sajith Premadasa when he becomes the party leader. But the Parliamentarian said they are not politically bankrupt to do so.
