The Government has crafted a comprehensive programme to uplift the fishery industry in the East.
The Government took the initiative of releasing fingerlings to reservoirs in the Trincomalee district. It will help to enhance earnings of the fishermen in the area while improving the nutritional standards of the people. The expenditure incurred by the Government is 720,000 rupees. It is planned to release about 360,000 fingerlings. The release of fingerlings to tanks in Seruwila, Gomarankadawala, Morawewa and Padavi-Sripura took place under the patronage of Minister Susantha Punchinilame.
