Government denies rumours of a dress code

Jan 6, 2011 11:20:20 AM - itnnews.lk

Minister T.B. Ekanayake has emphasized that there was no need for the government to enter into extremist initiatives at the Taliban level to protect the country’s culture. Joining in the “Seventh Hour” programme telecast by ITN, the Minister said these were rumours spread by bankrupt political parties to achieve benefits.

Minister Ekanayake said such bankrupt political parties were accusing the Government of adhering to a Taliban policy. Sri Lanka is a country which can look at the world with an open mind. Some had made statements over the media and internet that the government was determined to ban mini-skirts. There was no such action considered by the Government. He emphatically stated that neither his Ministry nor the Government had taken such a decision.
