Government will inquire into killing in Jaffna – Minister

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has said that the government will leave no room for any sinister group to bring disrepute to the government and put the blame on the murder of Valikamam Deputy Education Director, on the Government.

He said the President has specially mentioned that an immediate inquiry should be carried out with regard to this murder. Various groups and organizations in the past put into action various different practices to put the country into difficulty. It is very clear that an effort is being made to clear the path at a time when the Human Rights Commission was to convene in Geneva within one and half months, simply to sully the country’s image in the world. The Government is clearly aware of these efforts and would not hesitate to take appropriate action. He said that in the past, they had to face serious challenges. The Minister noted that the Government was taking suitable action with regard to such incidents.

Making a clarification at today’s Cabinet news briefing the Minister said that the Government will take all necessary measures to inquire into the allegations regarding the security situation in the Jaffna Peninsula. The Minister pointed out that they would take the responsibility in ensuring the safety and the well being of civilians in Jaffna.
