Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that vocational training programmes are being initiated targeting the children of fisher families.
The Minister said that the Ministry is taking care of not only the parents but the children who are engaged in studies and those who have dropped out from schools as well. He said the programme is being launched jointly by the Government, the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority and the Vocational Training Ministry. The Minister made this observation at the presentation of scholarships for school children at D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya in Beruwala. The vocational training programmes are being implemented for 285 children of fisher families who have not pursued higher education. The Minister said that employment will be provided for those who successfully complete the courses.
