The Cabinet has granted approval to setup 1000 fully fledged secondary schools throughout the country. Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told newsmen that the schools are being setup on a proposal put forward by Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
The Minister said the Asian Development Bank has granted the required four years’ allocation of 100 schools. He said that the World Bank aid is expected for this national mission from the second quarter of 2011. The responsibility of preparation of plans and supervision of construction is vested with the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau. It is expected to give priority for the small and medium scale contractors in carrying out the projects.
