Minister S.B. Dissanayake has said that by 2016 the development targets would be easily achieved.
The Minister said that the country now has a more opportunities to improve the economy compared to all the opportunities that were available after the 2nd world war. He said that the Government is expecting to emerge as a middle income country by doubling these opportunities in 2016. He said that their expectation is to make Sri Lanka the centre of education in Asia as well as the commerce hub within the next five to six years. They also expect to increase the number of tourists by fivefold. He said that it will be a time when there will be no dilapidated roads and malnourished people.
The Minister expressed these views when he participated in a function to grant 300 scholarships for school children. “Senehasa” Foundation in Japan provided the scholarships. A large number of Japanese nationals also participated in the occasion.
