The inclement weather conditions experienced in several districts are being eased although the flood situation in the East including Polonnaruwa is still continuing.
Flood waters in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and Matara Districts have receded and lives have returned to normalcy. The Disaster Management Centre said that due to incessant rains still experienced in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa Districts more than 500 people are displaced. They are staying in 18 temporary relief camps. Cooked food and other essential services are being continuously provided. 2600 houses in the area have been damaged. By yesterday three deaths were also reported.
