The Cricket World Cup begins its tour of the country with greetings for another victory for the country. The tour began from near Temple Trees with greetings from the President.
The Sri Lankan Cricketers who will be participating in the World Cup tournament met President Rajapaksa at Temple Trees this afternoon. The President told them that the journey towards their victory with team spirit will receive his and the blessings of the nation. A notable feature was the presence of the Cricket team which won the 1996 World Cup doing Sri Lanka proud. It was thereafter that the World cup Cricket tour commenced from near Temple Trees. The President extended his greetings to the tour by placing his fingers on a replica of the Cricket ball which depicts brotherhood and unity.
Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage also extended his greetings to the Cricket team. A large number of Athletes representing various Sports disciplines were present on this occasion. It was made colourful with several cultural events. The World Cup Cricket tour is due to last 42 days.
