Air Force is carrying out rescue missions in areas affected by the floods.
Low lying areas have been flooded with the breach of the dam of Walagama tank in Uhana, Ampara. The Air Force is using helicopters to rescue the people with the assistance of Navy, Army, Civil Defence Force and the Police. 84 thousand families have been displaced in the Ampara District. They are being provided shelter in 40 temporary camps. An emergency meeting has been called today by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to discuss relief measures.
