Minister Kumara Welgama has pointed out that the proposed private bus strike is unreasonable. He claimed that a majority of representatives of private bus associations are averse to a strike.
Addressing a media briefing, Minister Welgama announced that he was prepared to appoint a committee to look into the one rupee increase demanded by bus associations.
The Minister said that he cannot increase fares as and when they want as there was an accepted system. If they stage a strike in the Western Province, a majority will not support. They have already given a pledge to operate buses. He said he made a request not to hinder buses that operate. Also, the State Lransport will operate its buses to the maximum. He claimed that if the proposed strike was to be launched from midnight, it would not be a success.
