Operations are continuing to extend relief to civilians impacted by floods.
Life saving groups from the Armed forces and the Police are continuously engaged in rescue operations to save the lives of those stranded as a result of floods. The Air Force said that civilians who were stranded in many areas including Ampara, Bogamuyaya, Tampitiya, Rambakanoya and Valachchenai. A Bell-212 helicopter was used to save those who had been in hunger for several days. They included an expectant mother.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera today visited the Ampara District to inquire into the relief provided to flood victims. The Minister met Regional Officers and political representatives. He gave instructions on the initiatives that should be taken to provide relief. He told them that they should continue with extending all possible relief without considering limits of the grants needed.
