The Government is prepared to control epidemics that can occur following floods. Deputy Minister of Health Lalith Dissanayake said that public assistance is required for this purpose.
The Deputy Minister said that Minister Maithripala Sirisena has instructed a medical team to visit the affected areas to provide treatment. He said that there is a possibility of the spread of water borne diseases. The required medicine is already dispatched to DMO’s offices. Additional medical teams have been deployed to provide the necessary instructions. He said that the affected people should be provided boiled water as drinking water is very important. He said that measures were taken to clean and chlorinate the wells. He requested the people to maintain hygiene even amidst difficult conditions and to provide vaccinations for small children and to report to Health Authorities when an illness occurs. He said that mobile clinics will be conducted in the area.
