Schools still remain closed

The schools in the North Central, Eastern and Central provinces will remain closed today as well.

The displaced people have been provided temporary shelter in schools after their villages were inundated. Transportation has been hampered due to landslides and floods. Many more schools have been flooded. Education Secretary of the Eastern Province M.A.A. Pushpakuamara said that the schools in the province remain closed since yesterday in order to prevent the school children from getting into difficulties. He said that the closure will continue if the extreme weather will not ease. A number of landslides and floods are reported in the Central Province. Many more areas have been declared as danger zones. Education Director of the Central Province Wijayasiri Herath said that all schools in the province remain closed due to this situation. Meanwhile the Education officials in the North Central Province have taken measures to close schools in the North Central Province due to inclement weather. The schools in the Anuradhapura district were closed indefinitely. The starting date will be informed later.
