The Ministry of Agrarian service and wildlife said that 132,000 acres of paddy land has been destroyed due to floods.
These paddy fields are located in five Districts. 75,000 acres in the Batticaloa District, 30,000 acres in the Polonnaruwa District, 7,000 in the Ampara district and 10,000 acres each in the Trincomalee and Anuradhapura Districts are destroyed. The paddy fields in Battiacloa district have been under water for several days. Bunds of several tanks had breached. 52 tanks in Batticaloa District have been damaged. The fertilizer storage facilities in the districts have also gone under water. It is expected to launch a programme to promote agriculture following floods.
