Schools in the Central, North Central and Eastern Provinces will be kept closed this week following the heavy rainfall. Schools of many divisions in the Uva Province will also be kept closed until further notice.
Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekenayake said the danger prevails in certain areas within the province. However, he pointed out that taking into consideration the security of the children, it was decided to keep all schools in the Central Province closed for this week.
Education Secretary of the Eastern Province M;A.A. Pushpakumara said schools in the Eastern Province will not function this week. He pointed out that they had to take a decision to keep the schools closed as families displaced by rain and floods are being sheltered in these schools.
Meanwhile, the Uva Province Education Ministry has decided to keep schools of the Badulla, Welimada, Bandarawela and Passara Educational Divisions closed until further notice.
