Government releases another 25 million rupees to provide relief to flood victims in the Batticaloa District.
134,611 families are affected by floods in the Batticaloa Distirct alone. Of this 86,035 families are displaced. They are being sheltered in 185 Camps. Food, Sanitary and other facilities are being provided. Government as well as Private establishments are supporting in this task. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera chaired a special discussion at the Batticaloa District Secretariat to broach the expansion of the relief programmes.
Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthy Muralitharan, Bashir Segudawood and Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan as well as people’s representatives of the area attended this discussion.
Meanwhile, a special programme to extend relief to the affected families in the East has already been unveiled under the patronage of Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthy Muralitharan. The Minister traveling on very difficult roads in several areas including Thoppigala, Vakare and Vavunathivu in the Batticaloa District, distributed assistance among the affected families. He instructed the relevant officials to take all possible measures to grant immediate relief to them. The Deputy Minister inquired into the possibility of continuing the granting of relief.
