President Rajapaksa gives instructions to the Ministry of Power and Energy to give priority to the needs of the people rather than profits.
The President issued the instructions at a discussion with officials of the Electricity Board. He asserted that power should be supplied at a rate bearable by the people. Instructions were also given to provide an efficient and people’s friendly service. Power is a vital factor for civilian life as well as development. He told the Ministry officials to dedicate their services to achieve maximum success in the programme unveiled by the Government to meet the energy requirements of the country. The Power and Energy Ministry is vested with a major task in the country’s expeditious development journey.
The President commended the immediate contribution made by the Ministry to fulfill the electricity requirements of the East. Referring to the soaring fuel prices in the world market, the President emphasized that the Government would launch a special programme to provide fuel to the people at a concessionary rate. Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka opined that his Ministry is already stable monetary wise.
