The Cooperatives and Internal Trade Ministry has said that Lak Sathosa would purchase vegetables directly from the farmers in future.
The Ministry decision comes after the announcement made by the Sri Lanka Army that it would purchase vegetables directly farmers and sell them at lower rates to the consumers.
Cooperatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando has told the media that Lak Sathosa would buy and transport vegetables from the farmers in Nuwara Eliya like the Army and the Civil Defence Force.
Fernando has said that Lak Sathosa lorries will buy and transport the vegetables from farmers in Nuwara Eliya to prevent a price increase.
The vegetables purchased from the farmers would be sold at all Lak Sathosa outlets.
According to Fernando, some of the collected vegetables would be supplied to the Keppetipola Economic Center as well.
