The Government allocates 100 million rupees to provide relief to flood victims.
The relief operations are being carried out via the District Secretaries.
Meanwhile the Disaster Management Centre said that flood waters in 12 districts are receding. It is the Eastern Province that had been severely affected. Other than Batticaloa no rain fall had been reported today from the rest of the Districts. Our reporter said that the flood situation is gradually easing. The Army is supporting the release of excess water of small tanks in the Trincomalee, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa Districts.
Arrangements are being made to help the displaced in Dambulla to return to their homes. The distribution of dry rations, milk foods and other essentials to the displaced in camps took place under the guidance of Parliamentarian Lakshman Wasantha Perera. Cooked meals are being provided with the support of the armed forces. Meanwhile the water level of many reservoirs in the area has declined.
Earth which has slipped onto the Badulla – Kandy road via Randenigala is now being cleared. Traffic movement on this road is normal. The Badulla – Welimada road has been temporarily closed. As such the Traffic Police Division has urged motorists to use alternative roads. The Badulla District Disaster Management Centre said that neither landslides nor road obstructions had been reported within the last few hours. However, the public are informed to be cautious about the danger zones.
