The Sangupiddy Bridge which will connect Pooneryn and Jaffna will be vested in the public within a few days.
The bridge is 288 metres long and has two lanes. The expenditure incurred on the project was 800 million rupees. With the opening of the bridge there will be two access routes to the Jaffna Peninsula. The distance of travelling to Jaffna will be cut by 120 kilometres than taking the A-9 Highway. It will also be possible to cut the traveling time by three hours. In parallel to the building of this bridge, the Puttalam-Mannar and Pooneryn-Jaffna roads are also being reconstructed. These Projects are being implemented under the direct supervision of the President. The local engineers are play8ing a significant role in the construction. The Northern polity says this could be considered as a gift from the Government for the Thaipongal Festival.
