President Rajapaksa gives instructions to Government officials to grant relief to the people identifying the disastrous situation which has surfaced without restricting to circulars.
The President undertook a tour of the Polonnaruwa District this morning to look into the welfare activities of the flood victims. Addressing Polonnaruwa District state officials at the Ananda Balika Vidyalaya in Hingurakkoda, the President issued instructions as to how the relief should be granted to the affected persons. He underlined that the Government was always prepared to appear on behalf of any decision Government officials would be taking on behalf of the welfare of the public. It is the ordinary masses who are most impacted by disasters. It is the obligation of everyone to provide relief to them. The President declared that it is not the duty of any State official to spend time within offices at such a time. He asserted that the need of the hour is for everyone to unite putting aside all differences.
The President pointed out that the people cannot be left in hunger due to circulars. He reminded that public officials had the responsibility of taking decisions on certain occasions. He further reminded that the Government was prepared to appear on behalf of officials who take initiatives for the welfare of the people without taking into considerations circulars. He said there was no time to take into consideration circulars. The President told the officials to take initiatives to fulfil the needs of the people.
