Extraordinary cool weather conditions are experienced in Colombo. Deputy Director of the Met Department S.R. Jayasekera said that the reason is the overcast sky.
He said that the temperature in Colombo today is 20.8 degrees centigrade. He said that cool winds blowing from the North are causing the temperature to dip. The temperature during the midday is down due to the cloudy sky. Director General of the Met Department G.B. Samarasinghe noted that the land, the ocean and the atmosphere are interconnected. He said the reason for the weather condition is the phenomenon known as La-Nina. Extraordinary rainfall was experienced during the North East monsoons. Normally cyclones are not experienced during this period but during this year a cyclone gathered in the East although it did no developed due to the prevailing conditions. He said that earlier the condition known as El Nino was subject to discussion. He noted that the opposite of this condition is La Nina. He said that these weather conditions are created over the Pacific Ocean.
