Construction work on the Signal Transmission Tower in Kokavil has been completed.
It is the island’s biggest communication tower. Its height is 174 metres. It is hoped to meet the communication needs of the people of the Wanni and Jaffna through this Tower. The expenditure incurred by the Media Ministry and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission on this work is 384 million rupees. Brigadier A.R.G. Rowel of the Army Signal Brigade was confident that it would be operational by the first week of March.
A monument has been built in memory of war heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect the old Tower at the same location from the terrorists.
