A cold climate is prevailing throughout the country. Colombo is experiencing extreme cold weather. The temperature in Colombo has dropped to a 61-year low.
Making a clarification on the development in the climatic conditions, Director General of the Meteorological Department G.B. Samarasinghe attributed the weather condition to the phenomenon known as La-Nina. As such there should be a decrease in the rainfall next month. In the past five to six days wet weather conditions were experienced in the country. There were cloudy skies and sun rays did not fall on to the earth to dry the condition. This is the main reason for the cold weather condition. He pointed out that the cold climate in Colombo and in other parts of the country will last until the end of next month.
