Minister S.B. Dissanayake has said that a programme will be launched to improve the English knowledge of those who pass out from Universities and Institutes of Advanced Technology.
The Minister said that if a student who passes out of an institute of advanced technology or a university is unemployed, one would find that they are lacking in the knowledge of English. If Diploma holders of advanced technology are frightened of the private sector or if there is deficiency in their personalities that means that their English knowledge is not up to the standard. He said that this situation should not continue and a programme will be launched before the end of next year to fulfill the prevailing requirement. The Minister expressed this view at the presentation of appointment letters to lecturers, visiting lecturers, tutors and library assistants. 46 employees received appointment letters. Deputy Minister Nandimitra Ekanayake was amongst those who participated in the occasion.
