Several Parliamentarians have joined in granting immediate relief to families impacted by floods in the Eastern Province.
A group of Parliamentarians visited relief camps in Ampara and Batticaloa districts this morning. They inquired into the welfare of the inmates and distributed assistance among them. Senior Minister P. Dayaratne, Ministers Rauf Hakeem and Johnston Fernando, deputy Ministers Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan and A.L.M. Athaulla and Parlimentarians Namal Rajapaksa, H.M.M. Harris, Faizal Cassim and G.H. Piyasena joined in this programme. The group including Namal Rajapaksa visited relief camps in the Vinayagapuram area in Ampara and distributed dry rations among more than 37,000 persons. Thereafter, they visited the Sayindamaruthu area in Kalmunai and gave instructions to the officials to provide further relief to the flood victims.
They joined in dishing out to the people of Alayadivembu area in Akkaraipattu, donations collected by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade. These Parliamentarians also took the initiative of visiting the displaced who have taken shelter at the Siththandi Vidyalaya in Batticaloa and inquired into their welfare and granting relief.
