The first stock of goods provided by India for the flood victims reaches Sri Lanka.
The 25 tons of relief material including food, drinking water, sleeping mats, blankets and bed-sheets reached Katunayake this morning. Ministers Basil Rajapaksa and Mahinda Amaraweera accepted the donation from India’s High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera expressed his gratitude to the Indian Government and the Indian High Commissioner for the assistance provided for flood victims. He said the goods will be dispatched to Batticaloa and distributed among the flood victims tomorrow. He assured that the assistance will be properly distributed among the affected families irrespective of differences. The Minister pointed out that the Government from the start of the calamity took all necessary initiatives to help the victims and instructed to provide food to every affected persons sans considering circulars. He stated with responsibility that the President took all necessary initiatives to help the victims.
