President Rajapaksa points out that special attention should be drawn to disaster management in the crafting of physical plans.
The President pointed out the need to giving priority to disaster management in the formulation of physical plans and facilitating the development process. A discussion was held at Temple Trees after he received the national physical planning policy and plan. The President opined that special attention had to be directed in safeguarding the environment when crafting development plans. In such a process, the people should not encounter difficulties. Submissions were made on projects identified with regard to the national physical plan. Discussions centred on the habitat framework, the proposed railway and highway network, the development of the fishery and tourism industries, the development of the airport and Petroleum resources and on agricultural activities. The national physical plan provides the path for the implementation of the development progrmme avoiding areas which are frequently prone to natural disasters.
Proposals had been made through the plan for reforestation in areas selected for the protection of the Central hills. Several Parliamentarians and officials were present.
