The public servants in the areas affected due to floods are being granted special leave with pay. Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne has said that the government officials in those areas should however work with maximum commitment for the welfare of people affected by the floods.
The Minister said that the public servants living in areas such as Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Baticaloa and Ampara are considered as being engaged in their duties due to this being a disaster period. He said however the officials coming under the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Government have a large responsibility to be involved in the relief operations such as distributing aid and facilitating the victims. He expressed confidence that they will come forward to fulfill their duties.
