War heroes who were dedicated to liberating the country from terrorism have joined in operations to rescue the Eastern polity from floods.
People of several areas including Thoppigala were displaced and rendered helpless when their villages. Roads were flooded as a result of torrential rain, sought refuge in public places. Members of the Armed forces joined in granting relief to the Eastern civilians when the weather situation was serious and it was not possible to dispatch assistance not only by land but also by air.
Members of the Sri Lanka Army reached the affected families through difficult routes with the support of the Sri Lanka Navy. They were engaged in massive operations to provide all facilities including cooked meals to the affected families. Eastern Commander Major Gen. Boniface Perera said they were in much need of support from philanthropists on behalf of the Eastern civilians who are rendered helpless.
Members of the Armed Forces are continuously engaged in operations in many areas in the East where flood waters had not yet receded.
