Minister Basil Rajapaksa gives instructions to officials to expedite the granting of short and long term relief to families affected by floods in Batticaloa.
The Minister during a visit to the area had a meeting with the officials. District Secretary Sundaram Arumainayagam was given instructions to the initiatives that should be taken in future. Agricultural activities in the area should be started immediately. Mr. Rajapaksa revealed that the grants required for the repair of small tanks have been immediately allocated on the advice of the President.
Action has been adopted to provide seed paddy, fertilizer and agricultural materials for all farmers to resume cultivation. Infrastructure including roads and bridges will be immediately developed. The Minister also gave instructions to look into the property including houses that have been damaged as a result of the calamity. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Deputy Minster Duleep Wijesekera, Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan, M.L.A.M. Hisbulla and Bashir Segu Dawood, India’s High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha, Eastern Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan and TNA Parliamentarians Pon Selvarasa and P. Ariyanethran were present at this meeting.
