The Disaster Management Centre said that more than 10 thousand people who were staying in temporary camps in the Polonnaruwa district have already returned to their homes. Those who return are being provided dry rations adequate for one week. Polonnaruwa District Secretary Nimal Abeysiri said that financial assistance will be provided in the next few days to repair the houses damaged by the floods. The Polonnaruwa District Secretary said that the danger posed by the Parakrama Samudraya and Kaudulla tank has subsided. He observed that the people who stayed in the camps are returning to their homes. He said that the overall situation in Polonnaruwa is improving.
The flood affected people in Dambulla Gam Udava village are also returning to their homes from the temporary camps. Seventy seven families in the Gam Uda village in Dambulla were affected due to rain. They were provided dry rations and essential goods with the intervention of the District Secretary of Matale.
