Free telephone facilities are being provided for all Disaster Management Centres with effect from today.
Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that the ‘Sri Lanka Telecom’ hopes to provide free telephone facilities at the camps where the displaced are staying. He said that all offices have been provided special telephone facilities to coordinate with the flood affected. He noted that the Telecom and Mobitel companies have called upon the telephone users to make a 10 rupee contribution towards the flood affected. The Minister expressed these views while raising awareness in the media about the aid programme launched by the Ministry of Telecommunication for the flood victims. The Minister said that telephone users can participate in the programme by sending a Short Message to 5050 on Telecom and Mobitel telephones. Secretary to the Telecommunication Ministry A. Athukorala was amongst those who participated in the occasion.
