Inclement weather has impeded power supplies. The loss incurred as a result is 100 million rupees. Action has been initiated to bring to normality power supplies within one week.
There were obstructions to power supplies in several areas as a result of the adverse weather which was experienced in the country during the past few days. The high power tension network in the North, East, Uva and Central Provinces was defunct. The Ministry of Power and Energy said that there were disconnections to power supplies as a result of uprooted trees falling onto power lines due to heavy rain. Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka pointed out that the power transmission network has been made active. Flood waters had not yet receded in certain areas. The Minister said that the rest of the transmission network will be brought to normality after the flood water in those areas subsided. He added that several teams have already been deployed to the respective areas to undertake repairs.
