Lord Buddha’s first visit to Lanka commemorated

Today is Duruthu Fuul Moon Poya Day. It was on this day that the Blessed One, Buddha, visited Sri Lanka for the first time.

According to the chronicle, Buddha arrived in Sri Lanka to free this beautiful, resplendent island from Yakkas. Lord Buddha gave a clear message to the inhabitants of the country and advised them to mould their lives and follow the five precepts. Another significant incident that took place on the Duruthu Poya Day was the meeting of Buddha and an incumbent deity of Siripada, the God Sumana, at Bintenne, Mahiyangana.

The Special Dhamma Sermon in view of Duruthu Full Moon Poya Day at held at Temple Trees under the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

The Dhamma Sermon was delivered by the Ven. Ajan Brahmawanso Thera, Chief of the Bodhignana Aranya Senasana at Serpentime in West Australia.

The ITN’s “Savanak Res” Poya Live telecast is brought from the Dematamal Vihare at Okkampitiya in Moneragala. The Programme is being held under the guidance of the Ven. Galtamwatte Chandrajothi thera. The programme which includes sil and meditation campaigns will be held at the Vihare throughout the day
