Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna has referred to a Sambuddha Sasana Fund that is to be launched for the uplift of vihares.
The Prime Minister revealed that a Bill was being drafted for the launching of a Sambuddha Sasana fund. An initial deposit will be made from the Treasury. It is also planned to seek foreign funds. With the launching of the fund, the Government would be able to provide for the development of temples. Their intention is to moot the programme very soon. He emphasized that Sri Lanka would become a miraculous country only if it develops economically and spiritually.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a ceremony organized to ordain 36 novice monks at the Abhaya-Karunaratne Mudalindharama Vihare in Panadura. This Pinkama was performed under the programme of ordaining 2600 novice monks in parallel to the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthiya. The Pinkama was organized under the guidance of the Ven. Ambalangoda Sri Sumangala Thera, the Mahanayake of the Amarapura Nikaya. A notable feature was the delivery of an special Dhamma sermon by an eight-year old Samanera monk. The Prime Minister was presented with a memento for the noble service rendered by him for the protection of the Sambuddha Sasana. Members of the Maha Sangha and Parliamentarians of the area were among those present.
