Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S.M. Chandrasena has said today (20) the there was no threat of the country facing a paddy shortage in the next few months due to the recent floods.
Chandrasena told a press conference today that the government had a large quantity of paddy in its stores.
However, the Minister said that there could be a shortage in vegetables, which could result in the increase in vegetable prices.
According to Chandrasena, the rains have helped in the filling of reservoirs with water thereby reducing the likelihood of a future power failure and the farmers would be provided with a good water supply for cultivation.
