An agreement has been entered into for the launching of a mega water supply project in Ruhunupura. 111 thousand in Hambantota will benefit. The estimated cost is Eight billion rupees.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said work to develop areas such as the Ruhunapura, Trincomalee and Jaffna as economic hubs has commenced. Providing pure drinking water is vital to improve the livelihoods.
The signing of the contract agreement took place under the auspices of Minsiter Dinesh Gunawardena. Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board Karunasena Hettiarachchi and Deputy Chairman of the Kolon Pankorea-Yooshin Consortium of South Korea C.G. Riu inked the deal. The project will be based at the Ridiyagama tank in Hambantota. It is due to be completed in 2013. The water supply scheme has been planned to meet the increasing demand of the population and tourists with the completion mega development projects such as the Maagampura Harbour, the Airport and the Conference Hall in the district.
