A new school has been opened with the intention of providing knowledge centred education to children making the Mahinda Chintana – Extended Version a reality. The opening of the Mahinda Rajapaksa National School in Homagama took place under the patronage of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.
The Mahinda Rajapaksa National School fully equipped with physical and human resources was opened by the Prime Minister today. It has been built at the Mahenawatte area Pitipana in Homagam. The premises span 20 acres. Admission of children to the new school who had passed the Grade Five scholarship examination took place under the patronage of the Prime Minister. The school is also equipped with facilities for the teaching of national and international languages as well as laboratory and Computer facilities. Provincial Councilor Majeed Moulavi gifted a three-wheeler for the use of the school.
Speaking on this occasion, Prime Minister Jayaratne pointed out that every country in the world has endorsed the vast improvement witnessed in the educational field in Sri Lanka.
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena pointed out that the Government was mulling over the building of 1000 such schools countrywide.
Present on the occasion were many Parliamentarians.
