A Ford Explorer mysteriously appeared on its side against a Benedict College building this morning, and police are looking for its driver.
The smashed-up burgundy SUV was on its passenger side, roof against the Administration Building in the 2100 block of Taylor Street, near Pine Street, Columbia Police Department spokesman Brick Lewis said.
It apparently veered off or crossed Taylor, smashed through a brick pillar and fencing and struck a tree before coming to rest. There was no sign of the driver.
Police are investigating the wreck.
There is no evidence that anyone in the building or on the grounds was injured.
