Eastern Commander Major General Boniface Perera has said that all families displaced by floods in the East have returned to their homes.
A majority in the Eastern Province were affected by the adverse weather conditions experienced in the past few days. Over 318 thousand persons in Batticaloa were impacted by floods while the number affected in the Digamadulla District was more than 153 thousand. The number affected in the Trincomalee District was 40 thousand. The affected persons took shelter in Relief Camps. The Eastern Commander said that situation in the East is gradually returning to normality after the floods. He pointed out that the Army was implementing several projects to improve their living standards. He said that the projects are targeted at granting infrastructure, improving agricultural activities, distribution of school gear and uplifting health facilities. Major General Boniface Perera added that the Army was cultivating about 2000 acres of paddy land in the Eastern Province.
