UN Assistant Secretary on Humanitarian Affairs says that the UN is prepared to lend its full support for the programmes that are being implemented to provide relief for the flood victims.
UN Assistant Secretary on Humanitarian Affairs Catharine Bragg mentioned this at a press briefing in Colombo after touring the flood affected areas. She said that she would invite the world community to grant 51 million dollars needed for about one million flood victims as urgent relief. She further said that as an initial step UN Central Disaster Fund will grant six million dollars and would continue to provide humanitarian services. UN Resident Representative Neil Bhune was also present at the press briefing.
