The Sri Lanka Navy has categorically denied allegations of attacking and killing an Indian fisherman last Saturday.
Navy Spokesperson Captain Athula Senarath has told the media that these allegations are baseless and without proof.
According to the Spokesperson these allegations are suspected to be made by a few elements who intend to create problems and harm the goodwill between the Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Navy.
Meanwhile, The Hindu has reported on Sunday “that a fisherman from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu was killed allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday night. Taking a serious view of the killing of two Tamil fishermen in 10 days by the Sri Lankan Navy, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday had assured Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi that the Centre would take up the issue with the Sri Lankan authorities.”
